David Coates

Assistant Professor at Kristiania University College

David brings a wealth of experience and insight to #UDDay24 as a university lecturer and study program manager at Kristiania University College. Originally from Toronto and emigrated to Norway in 1992. His research focuses on how built environments can facilitate successful "aging in place." His work combines design, innovation, adaptive technology, and environmental psychology to enhance the lives of the elderly.

At the event, David will discuss his ongoing research and practical applications of the GERT aging suit, which he uses to educate students and designers about the needs of older adults and how to design for different functional impairments. This approach immerses participants into the experiences of older adulthood, highlighting the importance of empathy in design.
